    • How Likely Is It? – Ranking and Discussion Activity
      • Prepare and Distribute Statements
        • If you don’t study at all, you’re bound to fail the exam.
        • Drinking coffee before an exam will probably help you stay alert.
        • If you cram the night before, there’s a good chance you won’t remember everything.
        • If you get enough sleep, you’re sure to feel more focused in the morning.
        • It’s likely that students who take breaks while studying perform better.
        • You might feel nervous before the exam, but that’s normal.
      • Group Work – Ranking the Statements
        • Divide students into small groups.
        • Give them a set of statements and ask them to rank them from most certain to least certain based on the expressions used.
      • Class Discussion
        • Groups compare their rankings and justify their choices.
        • Encourage them to suggest other expressions for certainty and probability.
        • Ask follow-up questions like:
          • Do you agree that this statement is “certain”? Why or why not?
          • What would make this statement more or less certain?
        • Personalized Task – Make Your Own Sentences
          • Students write two certain and two probable statements about their own study habits or exam preparation.
          • They share their sentences with a partner, who tries to change one word to make the sentence either more or less certain.
